Thursday, April 10, 2008 - New Server! And Kaidon's Inaugural Address
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
First of all, we have a new server that will be up nearly 24/7, hosted by our new member Alyssa, a friend of Kaidon's. The server is still being set up, but it is online and available for your playing enjoyment at this IP: http://leagueofencelia.net/forum/showthread.php?tid=30. I'll keep you posted on major setting changes or maps/mods added to the server. The Server Info page (including the server tracker) are also updated with the new info. You can check the tracker to see if the server is online, and how many people are on it.
Kaidon also made a short "inaugural address" regarding recent events and upcoming changes in MW now that he is CNC:
"Hello, I'm sure many of you know me from my days in MW, and from my recent posts and such. Now that I have been elected as your new Leader, I would like to address a few things.
Firstly, due to recent events, the Mandalorian Warriors will NOT be absorbed into the Galactic Empire's gaming league. We will remain soverign.
On another note, Tanweth is performing a cleanup of the memberbase to remove inactive members. I would much appreciate it if all active members could come to the forums and alert me of their presence, via roll call.
On a more serious note, we have a new member named Alyssa, and she has generously agreed to run a near-24/7 server for us. This server's ip is 67.163.52.186:29073 and I'd love to see all of you as active there as possible.
The aforementioned new member, Alyssa, is also to become of special privelege due to her services and has requested a position as my assistant. I will acknowledge this request and create a new rank and position for her soon, aside from her current 'military' rank.
I hope to get all of you active, framiliar with me and the changes to the constitution, and perhaps sharper at this game. We have many new allies that have come with me, and you will meet them soon.
I plan to organize a tournament pretty soon, for reason of nostalgia, partially, but also as a drive for us to become more active.
That sums up my address. If you have any questions, please ask them as thouroughly as possible within the week. I'd like to have everything touched on as quickly as possible. Thank you, and welcome to a new era for MW."
Tuesday, April 1, 2008 - New CNC Elected, New Constitution Adopted, and the Will of Tanweth!
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Kaidon Elected CNC!
After many weeks of deliberation on MW's future, in votes where all full MW members could participate, we unanimously adopted the new Version 5 Constitution proposed by me (Tanweth), and elected Kaidon (the only person who ran in the CNC Election) MW's new commander-in-chief, replacing me. Kaidon offered in early February to take over MW as commander-in-chief, since we have not been doing well and I don't really have time to run MW, especially given its current situation. Kaidon is a former member who joined us first in early 2004, and has been in the clan on and off since then (more on than off). He rejoined the clan in February. Kaidon is expected to make a sort of "inauguration speech" topic soon, where he introduces himself to the clan and talks of his plans. I will post an announcement here on the speech as soon as it has been posted.
The Constitution...
As for the new constitution, you can read it in the Constitution section now (the old v4 constitution is now available in the History Archive). Briefly summarizing it, it gives High Command considerably more power, and limits the CNC's power more. This is partially an adaptation to the fact that we have elected a new CNC who is relatively unknown and who hasnt been tested as a leader, so I thought some checks on his power and allowances for collective leadership would be prudent. Kaidon did support the new constitution. Some examples of the ways the constitution gives High Command more power include the following:
1. High Command may now remove the CNC with at least a two-thirds majority vote.
2. High commanders are selected through a nomination system, where any current high commander can make a nomination. They can also only be removed by vote of High Command. Previously the CNC could appoint and expel high commanders at will.
3. High Command has sole authority over alliances, declaring war, setting clan rules, and amending the constitution. There is also a "supremacy clause" which states that High Command decisions cannot be contradicted by CNC decisions, unless they are related to the CNC's specifically stated constitutional powers.
The Will of Tanweth
Just as, after leaving MW's leadership, Thalion made the "Will of Thalion" explaining his reasons and providing advice to MW going into the future, I have made my own will based upon the same premise. It's a bit longer than Thalion's will (brevity isn't one of my strong points). But I'd like to think its all good stuff. So, if you're interested in reading all or part of it, go here.
Other Stuff
Now that this has been fixed up, Kaidon is allowing me to look at the members list, reclassify the members on it, and contact people about inactivity and whether they want to stay in MW, as well as recommending removals to High Command if it seems prudent. I will do that when I get a chance. So be sure to be checking your email, in case I sent an email to you regarding your status in MW.
Thursday, February 14, 2008 - Selecting a New CNC
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hi guys! Its been a while since I added an update here, but there is something going on. Recently former member Kaidon was accepted back into the clan, and offered to run it as commander-in-chief, since we have been talking about disbanding recently. A couple of people have suggested just disbanding the clan rather than handing it over, but I'm interested in continuing it . However, I don't really have an interest in running MW anymore.
So I'm holding a CNC election to select a new CNC. This is so that anyone else who is interested in the position can challenge Kaidon and get a chance to democratically gain the position. If one of you guys decides to run against him, we'll have a brief campaign period for the candidates to make their case, then have an election poll (in the style of the LoE presidential elections). If nobody runs against Kaidon, High Command will vote on whether to make him CNC or not.
If you want to read what Kaidon had to say (and read the response to it), check this thread out ("A Matter of Leadership"): http://leagueofencelia.net/forum/showthread.php?tid=1360
If you want to sign up, or comment on the election thingy, go here: http://leagueofencelia.net/forum/showthread.php?tid=1397.
Saturday, November 17, 2007 - New Call of Duty 4 LoE Division!
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After a discussion among LoE members that drummed up some interest in a Call of Duty 4 division, the division has now been formed under the name Codename: Proelium. Just today I split the clan into two factions, one for PC and one for Xbox 360 (since the game came out for both platforms), so if you're buying it for xbox, you still have a place in CP! I am the current temporary leader of the PC faction, and one of my good non-LoE friends, Sontan, has been appointed themporary leader of the Xbox 360 faction, since he offered to help organize. Veterans may remember him as Uncle Uber Guber from our former ally Phoenix Elite. ;)
If you don't know anything about Call of Duty 4, you can check out their website at http://callofduty.com/ or read the GameSpy review here. If that piques your interest, think about applying to the new division. We want you! MW members may apply by simple posting here. Other people may also apply, but I ask that you fill out the form in the Guidelines for Joining topic (since I don't have your info), then make a separate topic with that information. Again, we are accepting both PC and xbox players. Just indicate which platform you are playing or plan to play the game on.
Saturday, October 20, 2007 - New Amendment Passed & New MW Presidential Candidate!
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
September 07 Amendment Passed!
For the first time in over a year, the constitution has been amended by a 5-0 vote of High Command. This amendment implements a modified rank privilege distribution (the rights you get with each rank). It doesn't change much, but it's a little something. You can view the summary of the changes or, if you want to know all the technicalities, the documentation of the changes to the constitution in this thread.
New MW Presidential Candidate: FLIPIP!
Though it is only eight days until the election, we have a new candidate for League of Encelia president: Flipip! He is the only MW candidate running for president now that SJLGamer has dropped out. The other candidate is St Nicky, the leader of BORG Collective, LoE's Ogame division. Currently St Nicky appears to be the front runner, since he is very popular among his division members, and BORG is currently about as large as MW. I want MW to have at least an 80% voter turnout in this upcoming election. If we reach that, I'll give you all cookies (or pies) in the flavor of your choice! So on either October 29, 30, or 31, be prepared to vote for the guy of your choice! The poll will be in the Public Discussion and Voting forum under the League of Encelia - Main category.
You can learn more about the candidates in the Townhall Discussion thread. The posts by Lathandier are now obsolete because he withdrew from the election. However, St Nicky has made responses to most of the questions, and pretty soon here Flipip should be making some responses as well. If the Townhall Discussion is just too large for you to read through it, you can either skim it or wait for me to post my trademark "Presidential Candidate Positions?" thread within the next couple of days. This thread briefly summarizes in quotes from the townhall the positions each of the candidates have taken in response to major townhall questions. To learn more about elections, check this page on the LoE site.
Saturday, September 15, 2007 - Chaise Leaves MW & LoE Elections
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Chaise Leaves MW
After an incident on the FA server on the 3rd involving Chaise repeatedly laming SJLGamer and Kordo (supposedly in revenge for being lamed himself, though I have no proof of this), Chaise has left MW. I was on the server at the time and witnessed him lame on two occasions, and I saw him admit to it on a third occasion. He also allegedly lamed a fourth time after my computer froze. Although I did not see it, SJLGamer claims he was lamed on that occasion and Kordo confirmed it. I warned him three times for laming.
In a conversation on the 9th with Chaise, I informed him that he either needs to leave MW or take his chances with an expulsion poll. I also informed him that if he wanted to take his chances I would move the discussion to a public forum so that he could defend himself. However, he decided to leave, after claiming that he had the right to seek revenge and that I had no right to insist that he respect people (in this case, SJLGamer and Kordo) that he does not like.
LoE Election Sign Ups Open & Townhall Discussion!
Sign ups are now open for the Fall 07 presidential election! ANY LoE member of a division with full status (which includes MW) may run for president if they are nominated by two other members at any time between now and the election. All MW members can also vote in the election, which will be held from October 29-31. The current president, Lathandier, has already signed up and been nominated, as well as SJLGamer (both MW members). If you wish to run and shake things up a bit or nominate someone, post here. Read more about how elections work on the elections page of the LoE site (or else!). I want to see at least an 80% voter turnout from MW in October!
Now that there are two candidates, Paradox (the elections administrator) has opened the traditional Townhall Discussion thread on the forum. This is where any LoE member may ask a question of the candidates, and the candidates answer it for them. I recommend at least reading it periodically to find out what the candidates' positions are. But if there's a question you want to ask, by all means ask it. You can access it here.
Sunday, August 26, 2007 - Events Discussion & Other News
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Events Discussion (please comment)
I have called a discussion on MW's events that I am melodramatically calling "The End of Events?" (yes, I have my emo moments). The discussion is a response to the fact that the events seem to be pretty unpopular. Here is the first post:
"I've asked this before, but I'll ask it again. The events that we are currently holding are definitely not very popular. Every time I have to personally contact people just to get the minimum sign ups (and I'm not exaggerating when I say every time) except for the academy trainings (which only require one person). That suggests to me that people don't really care that much about having them. They just sign up because I ask them to.
So my question is, where are things wrong? Do you want a different kind of event? If so, what kind of event? Are the events just being consistently held at times where you're busy and can't come? If so, when can you come? Would you just rather play a regular game with no events whatsoever? Are you just bored with JA? What? I am not going to continue holding them with the current situation, since I don't have the time or the inclination to arrange the event, send out notifications, and personally contact everyone to get them to sign up."
Please make your comments here. Simply say what the issue is for you. If you have a suggestion, great, but I'm mostly curious at this point just to find out why people are not signing up.
Promotion Privileges
After testing the new promotion privileges system that we have now (which gives a new privilege at every rank) for over a year, I have come to the opinion that there are some things about it that don't work. I still want to have a privilege given at each rank, but not the way it is now. I particularly want to remove the requirement that you be Commander rank or above to participate in clan events (unless I say otherwise). Because I need to just to get enough sign ups (if that!) and I think it's unfair, I've waived the requirement for all MW events. However, I'm stumped as to exactly how to distribute privileges now (and what privileges to give). If you're a full member, you can view the full post and make your suggestions here.
Miscellaneous News
Here's a couple of smaller stories that are still worthy of note...
New Full Member - Kordo: Our beloved friend Kordo has finally been accepted as a full member. :D I believe this poll was overdue, as was closing it (I forgot about it and didn't close it until 10 days later). Sorry about that Kordo! Here are the full poll results:
Poll: Should Kordo be accepted as a full member?
Yes: 5 (100%)
No: 0 (0%)
Extend Testing Period: 0 (0%)
Total: 5 votes
Voter turnout: 24% (active members), 17% (all members)
Discuss the issue
New Recruit - The Gamble: An old friend of mine named The Gamble has decided to join MW. Welcome to the clan. :) Application.
Return of Lightspaladin?: Lightspaladin, one of our former FA recruits, made a post stating that he has been gone because his computer "got mad," but he's back now. Welcome back LP. :) Post
Friday, August 17, 2007 - Major WEBSITE Update (& A Little News)
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Website Updates
The website has had a little update that should improve things a little bit. Firstly, like with the LoE site, I have converted this from a site design using layers to a site design using tables. This will make it easier to update and should make it more cross-compatable between browsers. It also means you can increase the text size in your browser without it going outside the box!
There have been a few changes to the pages on the site. The teams and squadrons pages have been removed (the reason for the removal of the squadrons page is explained later in this news bulletin). I simply decided to remove the teams page since all of the info on there can be found on the forums. I will likely return it later as part of a general Events page. The About Us, Ranks, Rules, Members, Join Us, and Downloads pages have been updated. The biggest changes are to the Ranks and Rules pages. The Ranks page now includes information on the comprehensive promotion review, and the Rules page now includes the Admin Code and more information on how complaints are handled.
The Downloads page also now has more files!
Removal of the Squadrons
Since the Krayt Dragon MB2 squadron has been almost completely inactive, I have decided to remove it. You may of course still play MB2 as an MW member (we are a general JA clan, not just a JA+ clan), we just wont have that separate classification for MB2 members.
New Inactivity Policy & Inactive Members
I am changing slightly how inactivity is classified. Previously I have pretty much counted everybody as active so long as they are occasionally around on the forums or in-game. I will still do this, however I will classify people who are only active on the forums differently from people who are active in-game (and possibly active on the forums). If you are active in-game, you will be classified as primarily active. If you are only active on the forums, you will be classified as secondarily active. There is no penalty for being secondarily active except that you cannot be promoted (since in-game activity is required for promotion).
That means it's that time of year again. I have looked at our members list and classified the following people as secondarily active:
Morpheus
Thalion
Specter
And the following people as inactive:
CranStar
Isolate
Sense (authorized inactivity)
Smitty
As always, if you are one of these people or you have seen one of these people and you think they (or you) shouldn't be tagged this way, let me know. I know I'm not omniscient, so I don't know exactly how active all of you are. :P
Wednesday, August 15, 2007 - Major News Update
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Promotions - 8/10/07
It's been a while since I did one of these, so I think it's time I did. ;) I made three promotions on the 10th:
Lathandier from Captain to Major
Vycrol from Captain to Major
Charge from Major to Colonel
SJLGamer from Lieutenant to Lieutenant Commander
High Command Removals and New High Commander
Both Isolate and CranStar have been removed from High Command for inactivity. Under High Command Inactivity rules, a High Commander may be expelled for the following reasons:
1. Not voting in three polls in a row (regardless of the time span between them). Members will be warned with each missed poll, so that they know of the problem.
2. If they vote enough to avoid the three strikes rule but still show sketchy activity when it comes to voting, they may also be removed. Again, they will be warned with each missed poll.
Though they may be reinstated, they will have to show that they will be active in future for that to happen. I have decided that the only replacement appointment that I will make is to ask Charge to join High Command. Charge has shown that he is active and cares about clan issues and has earned my trust. As a result, I am happy to appoint him to High Command for his service. :)
New Comprehensive Promotion Review
After discussing the issue with High Command, I have decided to make some minor changes to our promotions system. The main change is the creating of a mapping of what things factor into a promotion and to what extent that they factor in. This mapping will be publicly viewable so that members can better know what to do to gain promotion. I have mapped each factor out by assigning them points. The more points they award, the more important they are considered. I wont actually award points to anyone, I will just use the point allocations to organize things in promotion decisions. Here is the mapping:
(required fields are denoted with an asterisk)
Event activity* - 6 per event. 3 or less if showing up late.
Out of event in-game activity* - up to 24 (if VERY active)
Forum activity - up to 16
Recruiting - 8 per recruit
Skill improvement - up to 12
Modding - up to 12
Voting and other participation in clan issues - up to 10
Sentinel/champion or knight honors in a tournament - 4 (sentinel/champion), 2 (knight)
The following factors may cause you to lose points or be demoted (the amount will vary):
Inactivity without prior notice - please note that if the clan is generally inactive this will not apply. I will also try to contact you before making any demotion.
Breaking clan rules - please note that minor violations may not factor in if they are not repeat offenses.
The other change I have made is very minor. I will simply (officially) give people the option of asking me to review them for promotion if they think they are deserving, instead of simply saying that asking for promotion will reduced your chances. Pressing the issue WILL reduce your chances, but you do have the right to ask me to simply review your "prospects" (since I am not a god and I do sometimes overlook people out of forgetfulness).
All of this info will be added to the site's pages when I have time, but I'm too lazy right now.
Clan Tag Rule Removed!
After a 5-1 vote of High Command in favor of removing rule #3 (mandatory clan tag wearing), the rule has been removed from our clan rules. However, I am replacing it with a new minor rule:
3. Wearing your clan tag and rank tag in-game, though recommended, is optional unless you are participating in a clan match. If you do chose to wear your clan tag, it may be in any color except the following colors (unless they apply to you):
(<MW>) - Gladiators only
(<MW>) - High Commanders only
Luke and Nexius Depart
About a week ago I asked Luke about still being in MW, and he has decided to leave since he is now in FA. Nexius has also decided to leave (shortly after joining, as usual) to join the new FA.
Alliance with Freedom Alliance Poll Ended
The Alliance with Freedom Alliance poll results are in. The poll was opened to all full members, though only 5 voted (and only 2 of those were in High Command). The results are 4-1 in favor of the alliance. As a result, the alliance will remain, at least for now.

New Members: Nexius and Guy
Other than that, we have two new members. One is Nexius (formerly known as Dagon), who is actually a former member who came from the old FA. His application to rejoin was passed on the 19th of July, though he only recently decided he actually did want to join MW rather than join the new FA.
Guy used to be a member of the old GW division Dragoons of the White Mountain. He just recently bought JA and has decided to join us!

Teams Restructure
Since Isolate is no longer able to regularly participate in events due to work, I am dissolving IDF. That just leave TA and PSN. Unless it seems like we need a third team, I will likely keep it that way. However, I have also decided to remove everyone from those teams, since I have no idea who is active and wishes to continue or not. If you do wish to join the teams system (and you do, you REALLY do), please reapply. You can do so simply by making a post here stating which team you want to join (though you may not be placed in your team of choice for balancing reasons).
New Event Notifications
Recently the issue has been brought to my attention of members often not even knowing if event sign ups are open. I always tell people to just be sure to check the Teams & Events forum, but since that doesn't appear to be enough I have decided to do the following:
1. I will create event notification emails. These will be just like the old newsletters, except they will only contain event notifications. Members will automatically be signed up for the notifications, though they may unsubscribe if they want to.
2. I will update the site when there are new event sign ups.
3. I will create a forum announcement about upcoming events that will appear in all MW forums.
New Alliance: Freedom Alliance
Our ol' beloved ally FA has returned, this time under the name Freedom Alliance. Luke is once again leading it, and it looks like most of the old members will be returning (including the ones from MW :( ). But no matter, since we used to be allies I did ask them for an alliance, and they accepted. Welcome back FA. :D
League of Encelia Wallpaper Contest
If any of you fellows have some l33t pH0t0$h0P sk1llz, our cordial interim president Lathandier has initiated a wallpaper contest. Any member may submit a wallpaper (that conforms to the rules of the contest) by August 11, and it will be put in a community poll to select the three best wallpapers. The wallpaper must be LoE-themed (which could include an MW clan-related theme). Those wallpapers will be put on the site for download, so that other members may be awed by them for all time. If you're interested, check this topic.

Tuesday, July 8, 2007 - Event! Wohoo!
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
We have a new (as in NEW) event! It is what I am calling an (<MW>) Academy Training Event. As some of you may have noticed, I haven't been holding events recently. I'm sorry about that. I was discouraged since we weren't getting enough sign ups. I've decided that this time I'll have a different kind of event. In past we have [tried] to give all academy members private lessons to improve their skills. But I think we can also have public training events to try and train a few people at a time. So, that's what this is going to be. Remember, ANY member can sign up (you don't have to be signed up with the academy. Check here for more details.
Also, if you didn't catch the LoE election results, Sparrow won 15-11 over Lathandier. Congratulations to General Sparrow (now President Sparrow) on his new position! For more details, check the LoE site.
Tuesday, June 25, 2007 - Site Updates
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Sorry for the lack of updates recently. We're not dead! Anyways, I have made a few website updates. I recently discovered that PCG is no longer with us, so I have removed them as a mirror for downloads on the Server Info page. I am also sorry to report that a while back Flipip took down Flipip's Taffy Tavern (our MB2 server) due to low activity. I have therefore removed it from the Server Info page. These are only tentative updates. Expect a full change (including a new layout) to the site soon to hopefully make it more streamlined and functional.
In other news, the League of Encelia election is less than 3 days away! I want to see at least a 75% voter turnout from MW members. The election poll will be held in the Internal Discussion forum (under the League of Encelia - Main category). If for some reason you will not be able to access the forums and vote while the poll is open, LoE has an absentee voting system where you can send in your vote at any time to Paradox (contact info is in the Members page), and it will be counted.
